ShUS KPO-SW Expendable Socket Joint Sub

ShUS KPO-SW socket joint sub for expendable carriers as parts of Scorpion guns run on wireline or TCP is used for free-moving of perforating assembly in wells with high dogleg severity as well as for quicker assembly of perforating gun carriers at the well mouth.

It provides tight connection of carriers and detonation transmission from the top carrier to the bottom carrier. Detonation is transmitted from a special ZPSh-PP shaped charge to the detonation boosting charge (booster).

Specific Features:

• Max bending angle in one socket joint sub is 3° providing accident-free delivery of the explosive-perforating equipment to a target interval due to adjustment of perforating gun carriers of different length;
• No need to use a threaded connection – carriers are connected by the bayonet-type fixing of two socket joint subs;
• The socket joint sub does not limit load capacity of perforating gun assembly;
• Quantity of socket joint subs in the assembly is limited only by load capacity of wireline or firing head;
• ZPSh-PP shaped charge is set in the adapter sub of the bottom socket joint sub which is screwed to the bottom end of the top carrier of perforating assembly;
• Design is protected by the patent №2597898 RF.

ShUS-A KPO-SW Reusable Socket Joint Sub

ShUS-A KPO-SW socket joint subs are reusable devices designed to connect Scorpion gun carriers during TCP and wireline explosive-perforating works in wells with dogleg severity. ShUS-A KPO-XXSW socket joint consists of transmitting and receiving parts.

ZPSh-PP (A) socket joint charge is placed in the transmitting part of the socket joint unit to transmit detonation between Carriers. A cumulative jet generated at initiating of ZPSh-PP (A) charge perforates thin-wall bridges in a replaceable washer and a replaceable head thereby initiating the boosting charge Booster-PP installed behind it which transmits detonation further to the explosive chain of the gun Carrier. Transmission unit housing, seat and housing of the receiving head are reusable components with operational life up to 10 shootings (for ShUS-A KPO64SW – 5 shootings).

Specific Features

• ShUS-A are reusable products (subject to replacement of replaceable components);
• No need to screw carriers;
• Can be used with standard Scorpion guns of diameter from 64 mm to 102 mm;
• Saving of well downtime, high speed of TCP gun assembly;
• Tight separation of carriers from each other provides additional protection from abnormal situations in case of liquid getting inside the gun;
